Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan

(Born: 7th August, 1925 - present) on his 94th birthday. 

He is well known Indian Geneticist and International administrator and renowned for his success in introducing and further developing high yielding dwarf varieties of Wheat in India. 

He was Director General (DG) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) from 1974-79. He was Principal Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India from 1979-80. He was DG of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) from 1982-88. He became president of the International Union for the conservation of Nature and Natural Resources in 1988.

He got 25+ National awards and 30+ International awards. 

He published 250+ scientific papers in the field of Crop Improvement, Cytogenetics and Phylogenetics.
